TURNPIKE APPROVING ANOTHER TOLL HIKE COMING AT THE START OF THE NEW YEAR. KRISTEN: TODAY, THE TURNPIKE COMMISSION APPROVED A 5% TOLL INCREASE. IT WILL GO INTO EFFECT ON JANUARY 8. THE HIKES STEMS FROM ACT 44, WHICH REQUIRES THE TURNPIKE TO TRANSFER MILLIONS ANNUALLY TO THE STATE TO SUPPORT TRANSPORTATION PROJECTS. HERE’S WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU. THE MOST COMMON TOLL FOR A PASSENGER VEHICLE WILL GO UP 10 CENTS TO $1.80 FOR EZ-PASS CUSTOMERS, AND 30 CENTS TO $4.40 FOR TOLL-BY-PLATE CUSTOMERS. A CLASS-5 TRACTOR TRAILER WILL PAY 70 CENTS MORE WITH EZPASS, AND $1.40 MORE FOR TOLL-BY-PLATE.

It will cost you more to use the Pennsylvania Turnpike starting next week.A 5% toll increase goes into effect on Jan. 8. The hike was approved by the turnpike commission in August.Here's what the change means: The most common toll for a passenger vehicle will go up 10 cents to $1.80 for E-ZPass customers. It will go up 30 cents to $4.40 for Toll-by-Plate customers.A class-5 tractor-trailer will pay 70 cents more, with E-ZPass and $1.40 more for those using Toll-by-Plate. “The PTC has been forced to increase tolls annually through the foreseeable future to meet its financial obligations under Act 44 of 2007," Turnpike Commission CEO Mark Compton said in an August statement announcing the increase. “It’s worth noting that, even with these ongoing annual increases, our per-mile toll rate continues to be below the midline compared with rates of other U.S. tolling agencies.”
